, Mediacorp Cannes Young Lions Competitions Singapore 2018

With only 48 hours to ideate, shoot, and put together a short film, our ability to work under an obscene amount of pressure was put to the test. And it didn’t help to know that we were up against a record number of participants that year.

One stolen shopping cart, two knackered creatives, three hours of sleep, and countless moments of anxiety later, our winning idea was conceived, and we went on to represent Singapore on the world stage in Cannes. It was a surreal experience that I will always be grateful for, and one that continues to fuel my dreams of winning a proper Lion.🤞

Food for thought.

While Singapore has one of the highest standards of living in the world, 1 in 10 Singaporeans still face food insecurity, the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable nutritious food. The brief was to evoke sympathy among Singaporeans and encourage them to donate food to the needy.

Our idea was simple – to remind viewers that our comfortable lives can sometimes make us oblivious to those who don’t know when their next meal will be. The shopping cart was the perfect instrument to demonstrate this, and we decided to use it as a visual catalyst that delivers a little twist to invoke immediate realisation and self-reflection in our viewers.
